A beloved family home…

My sweet client, Allison first reached out to me in 2022 with a request to commission a home portrait as a gift for her husband. Her husbands grandmother, and matriarch of the family, passed away earlier that year at the old age of 96. Her beautiful home was beloved by the whole family and held many special memories. Allison didn’t have a perfect reference photo to use, but she did have several different photos that she hoped I could piece together to create this keepsake gift.

I loved looking at these photos! They included old and new photos of the home and depicted the many family members enjoying time in the front yard or on the large front porch. Allison asked me to specifically include a few details that really made the home special - like a sign above the door and a banner welcoming family to “the beach house.”

I was able to piece together the photos to create a special, one of a kind, 11x14 watercolor painting.

Fast forward to 2024. Allison reached out again with a request to have extra prints made of the original painting, sadly the house was scheduled to be torn down. Luckily I did still have some photos of the piece that we could easily turn into prints for the rest of the family. We ended up deciding to re-do the piece as a housewarming gift for family members and made a few extra prints of the new painting.

I truly loved capturing this home in a painting. Being able to create a one of a kind piece of artwork is really special and so different than just a photograph. I’m honored that my painting will remain an heirloom for years to come and help this family hold on to this special place.
